Authentication
A important use of your NetID is for authentication that allows access to Duke computing resources. Some resources require NetID authentication when accessed from a non-Duke IP address.
Authentication modes vary.
- Many services present a custom login screen or dialog that prompts for a userid and password.
For other resources there is a secure web browser boilerplate into which you must enter your NetID and its password. You will encounter two similar authentication mechanisms. Shibboleth is the newer form; WebAuth is an older form. Both require the same information.
In short, know your NetID and NetID password. Contact the OIT Help Desk (684-2200) or visit the LINK service desk with any questions.
