Remote Access to Domain Account Home Directory

This section presumes you have a Sociology Domain account and the installation of a VPN client appropriate for the operating system of your PC. The steps are described for Windows XP and Mac OS X.

Via Windows XP

1. Load the VPN client and authenticate with your NetID and password.

2. Right-click on My Computer and select the Explore option.

3. Select Tools, then Map Network Drive...

4. In the resulting dialog box, specify H: as the drive and enter the following folder specification: \\utopia2.soc.duke.edu\homes\lanhome

5. Do not check Reconnect at logon.

6. When prompted, enter your Domain account userid and password.
7. An H: drive letter is added which maps to your lanhome directory.

Via Mac OS X

1. Load the VPN client and authenticate with your NetID and password.

2. Select Finder, then the Go menu, and the Connect to server option.

3. In the Server Address field, type:

   • smb://utopia2.soc.duke.edu/homes/lanhome

4. Authenticate with your Domain account userid and password.
5. A network link to your lanhome directory is added.
