Wireless
Duke OIT maintains a wireless data network throughout West, East and Central campuses. The quality and capacity of this network has kept pace with expanded laptop use by students, faculty and staff.
Wireless activation points in Sociology/Psychology were upgraded in 2008 and support the use of 802.11a/b/g/n wireless protocols. Wireless cards using the 802.11n protocol offer the best performance.
All Sociology offices and classrooms support wireless access. Wireless is subject to occasional outages and and load-based fluctuations of performance, but consistent access failures in an area should be reported to an IT staff member.
Laptops being used for the first time on the Duke wireless network must be configured to use the network name (SSID) "DUKE" and then registered. A facility called NetReg autodetects the presence of a new computer and causes display of a registration form when the computer browser is opened. Fill out and submit this form to complete registration. For additional details see the OIT Get Connected page.
For a general overview see the Wireless Networking at Duke page.
