Air Date: 1/5/2005

Future of Work: In the past few years, North Carolina has experienced downsizing, outsourcing, a tobacco buyout, and a declining textile industry. So what will the state’s workforce look like in five or ten years? Host Melinda Penkava looks at the future of working in North Carolina with Gary Gereffi, professor of sociology at Duke University; Lynda Aiman-Smith, associate professor of business management at NC State University; Larry Keen, vice president of economic and workforce development for the North Carolina Community College System; and Leo John, reporter for the Triangle Business Journal. Listener Call-In. (50:00)

Real Christmas: In parts of western North Carolina, it used to be that the holiday season didn’t end until “Real Christmas” came on January 6th. Writer, musician, and storyteller Sheila Kay Adams tells the tale of how her family celebrated “Real Christmas.” (9:00)
