Living Conditions
of the Elderly in Sweden: Trends 1980-1998 and comparisons with Some Mid-1980s Estimates
for the European Union

H. Gouiedo reviews a Swedish report entitled “Living Conditions of the Elderly 1980-1998”and
provides complementary data for the other 14 member states of the European
Union
(EU) for the mid-1990s. Since 1974 Statistics Sweden has conducted large annual
sample surveys of individual and household living conditions in Sweden.
Commentary on Chartbooks on the Elderly and Policy Implications
Abbott
L. Ferriss comments on the recent chartbook from the Federal Agency Forum on
Aging-Related Statistics on the well-being of older Americans and provides a commentary
by Henning Friis on the policy implications of these indicator efforts.
