DBMS/Copy

Description: DBMS/Copy is a general purpose data transfer utility for converting statistical package, spreadsheet, database and text files between system file formats. It is distributed by the DataFlux Corporation, a subsidiary of the SAS Institute.

Availability: OIT maintains a university site license for the Windows version of DBMS/Copy 8.0. It comes as a free addon to statistical packages licensed from OIT. Departmental Windows PCs with statistical packages installed, such as SAS or Stata, will normally also have DBMS/Copy installed. Persons wishing DBMS/Copy for laptop or home computer use may request a copy from a computing staff member.

A server bound UNIX version of DBMS/Copy 8.0 is available on compute server paradigm.

A UNIX version of DBMS/Copy 7.0 is available on compute server charisma. While this version works for some conversions, it is out-of-date and the version on paradigm should be used instead.

Documentation: An online DBMS/Copy 8.0 User's Guide in PDF format is available on compute server paradigm. To view this guide:

  1. Login to paradigm.
  2. If working on a Windows PC, make sure X-Win32 has been loaded.
  3. At the UNIX prompt, type: dbmsdoc &
  4. An Adobe Acrobat window will open containing the guide.

Note this guide is displayed in a UNIX Acrobat session running on paradigm and displayed via the X-server software running on your PC.

Modes of Usage Under UNIX: DBMS/Copy is typically loaded in an interactive, graphical session from the UNIX prompt by typing:

dbmscopy &

Alternate batch forms of running the software are described in the user's guide.
