"Stopping the Enemies"
*Project 15 – Variability and relationships within populations of Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. cubenese from its center of origin
Results: Greater knowledge on this disease, and thus helping the other programs screen against it better. Also found some things useful for molecular markers.
*Project 17 – Origin and distribution of fungicide-resistant strains of M. fijiensis in banana plantations in Costa Rica
Rrsults: Increased information on how black Sigatoka resists fungicides and other measures
*Project 14 – Elimination of banana streak badnavirus (BSV) from improved Musa germplasm and related studies on transmission and host plant/virus/vector interactions
Results: All around increased knowledge on the workings of BSV, possibly leading to control of it.
*Project 18 – Tolerance/resistance of bananas to nematodes
Results: More knowledge on resistance to certain diseases.
*Project 19 – Identification of durable nematode resistance sources in banana and plantain
Results: Establishment of Nematologists' Consortium, and more information on nematodes.
*Project 20 – Identification of durable pest and disease resistance sources in banana and plantain
Results: New nematode resistance resources, and validation of resistant material.
*Project 21 – Identification of durable nematode resistance sources in banana and plantain
Results: More tests and results for screening trials. This project was conceived by the Nematologists' Consortium.
