Virtually all major producers of bananas can be classified into two groups. The Latin American Producers, and the Asian Producers. As the graph clearly shows, the leading world producers are India, Brazil, and Ecuador, with China making great strives to catch up to those three. This is not surprising considering the amount of people, land, and resources that China possesses. Indonesia is also making some headway in the market; it seems that Asian producers are on the upswing while Latin American producers remain stagnant.
However, analysis of another graph, of actual world exports, shows that while India may hold a substantial advantage in numbers produced over Ecuador, Ecuador is the clear leader in exporting Bananas.

It seems that the only real exporters of bananas come from Latin America, with the exception of the Philippines. The Asian countries such as India and China, while they produce a great deal of bananas, tend to consume most of what they grow. While China's production of bananas has grown sharply over the past few years, considering their incredible population, it is hard to picture them as a big competitor to the Latin American near monopoly on exporting bananas. There is much competition among these exporting countries though.
