Technology: The Age of Computers

A Tobacco Workhouse Tradesman on the technology in the
tobacco industry:
" We have gone from using mostly manual labor for
the unloading of the trucks to electric hoists and things of this
nature."

--other workers add that there are now computerized scales for
weighing tobacco and the farmer's bill is now on computer rather
than in a huge logbook. Clearly, our computerized culture has
infiltrated the tobacco industry.

Computers are currently used at all steps of the manufacturing process, from weighing the tobacco, to monitoring flavorings and other additives, to inspecting the cigarettes at all stages, to finally packaging and distribution.  For more details on the manufaturing process of cigarettes, please click here.
