v Sprint PCS has contracted with QUALCOMM-pioneer and world leader of Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) digital wireless technology in order to take CDMA chip to next level. The new chip is called the 3G, Third Generation. It will feature faster forward power control, new modulation and coding schemes, support for Quick Paging Channel and a 24x searcher, 50% increase in handset standby time, packet data, a full Internet protocol suite, voice recognition, and many other features.
v Sprint PCS contracted with Samsung to provide the intial phase of Samsung’s own cdmaOne chip. Sprint will install Samsung’s new technology. In return, Samsung will grant Sprint “base station subsystems CDMA-based products and services to the Sprint PCS system in Puerto Rico
v Sprint PCS increased nationwide distribution in contracting with KMart (2nd largest discount retailer) who will provide phones and service at more than 1,200 KMart stores.
v Sprint PCS opened additional Customer Care Centers in Nashville, Oklahoma City, and Chicago.
